An Ocala police officer was arrested Friday and charged with engaging in sexual activity with a 16-year-old he met while on duty, Ocala police Sgt. Matthew Bos said.
Officer Bennie Wilson, 41, has been with the department for two years. He was placed on unpaid administrative leave, Bos said.
The department got an anonymous tip about Wilson's relationship with the teenager, and has been investigating it for a few weeks, Bos said.
Detectives found and interviewed the girl, Bos said.
Bos said he did not know how Wilson met the teen, but said it was "through officer Wilson's job duties." They engaged in sexual activity twice, though Bos did not know when.
After the second time, Wilson gave the girl $20, Bos said.
"I don't know if it was something that was agreed upon prior to the act, or what led him to giving her the $20 afterward, but he did," Bos said.
Wilson was held in Marion County Jail on a $10,000 bond Friday night.
