LEBRON JAMES |
James’ Miami teammates Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade face similar decisions after the Big 3 combined for two titles and four straight appearances in the NBA Finals.
Some believe the Spurs’ five-game demolition of the aging Heat in the NBA Finals increased James’ chances of bolting South Beach for a more suitable contender.
James’ move puts pressure on Heat president Pat Riley to improve a team that was on fumes against the Spurs. The Cavaliers, with the No. 1 pick and budding star point guard Kyrie Irving, are expected to make a run at luring James back to Cleveland.
The Rockets and Clippers have the star pieces to attract James, but first must shed salary space to make room to sign him.
“You’ve got to stay together, if you’ve got the guts,” Riley said at his end-of-year press conference.
“You don’t find the first door and run out of it if you have an opportunity. This is four years now into this era, this team. Four finals it’s only been done three other times before and two championships. From day one to the end, it was like a Broadway show. It sort of ran out of steam. And we need to retool. We don’t need to rebuild. We need to retool. And that’s what we’re going to do.”
