GOOGLE TEAMS UP WITH LUXURY WATCHMAKER TAG HEUER TO CHALLENGE APPLE'S SMARTWATCH

Google is getting into the smartwatch business — though its timing may be running a little behind.

The search-engine giant and Intel said Thursday they are teaming up with LVMH’s luxury watchmaker Tag Heuer to challenge the Apple Watch, which was formally announced last week.

The new, Google-based watch will be designed and produced by Tag Heuer, using Google’s Android operating system powered by Intel processor chips, reps said Thursday.

The new watch is slated to be released in the fourth quarter, execs said, declining to give any specifics on design, pricing or features.

Separately Thursday, Gucci said it will develop a “smartband” that handles phone calls, text messages, emails and music. The company gave no details on pricing or launch timing.
