The reception, attended by many showbiz personalities and politicians, was held at the Mall of Asia Arena.
While many were impressed at the beautiful ‘royal wedding,’ others found it too lavish and criticized the newlyweds. The couple was also accused of having too many 'ex-deals (exchange deals)' or sponsors.
This prompted Dingdong and Marian’s wedding coordinator Teena Barretto to speak up in defense of the couple.
In a social media post captured by Fashionpulis.com, Teena said, "Dingdong paid for the wedding. And it was not a cheap wedding."
Teena revealed that "most (sponsors) were politely declined." The 12-foot wedding cake courtesy of Goldilocks, which Dingdong endorses, was the only exception.
"The amount of sponsorship/ xdeal is not even 5% of the total wedding cost paid by the groom. Given that, one can say that yes indeed "they paid for the wedding," Teena posted.
She explained that Dingdong only wanted the best for Marian.
"While we are thankful to those who were very generous with their products and services, I still feel it is unfair that the couple is being bashed this way for something so beautiful, and most importantly, something they worked so hard for. Dingdong had the purest intention of giving Marian the best wedding she deserves."
Dingdong said in earlier interviews that he shouldered the wedding expenses as gift to his bride.
“Itong araw na kasi is really for her (Marian). It’s for the sake of our families, but it’s really more for her. I want it as a gift para sa kanya. So, dapat lang naman talaga.
