BOBBY SHMURDA HIT WITH 32 NEW CHARGES TO THE ORIGINAL INDICTMENT BY THE STATE OF NEW YORK

BOBBY SHMURDA
It’s only right fellow Brooklyn rapper Jay-Z in a “#HovQuotesForEverything” moment could sum up Bobby Shmurda’s current reality.

Last week, reports emerge that the DA’s office would drop the gun charges which alleged he fired at a crowd of people in front of a barbershop. Any positive momentum gained there has likely evaporated, as Shmurda and crew were hit with 32 new charges.

“Part of those challenges from defense attorneys came as the State added an additional 32 charges to the original indictment, bringing the total number to 101. All but five of those charges stem from the Dec. 17 “takedown” that police staged at Quad Studios, and all 32 are either second degree criminal possession of a weapon, third degree criminal possession of a weapon or criminal possession of a firearm. Due to the additional charges, three individuals—Binish Mahmoud, Aja Davis and Michael Legall—were added to the indictment.”

Kenneth Montgomery, Shmurda ’s new lawyer, expressed dismay regarding the indictment and the rapper’s possible bail.

“‘There’s nothing about a hierarchy about this alleged gang,’ Montgomery said about the indictment, calling the bail ‘extremely unfair.’ The arguments made by the State to secure that figure, he argued, were based on the allegations that Shmurda—far and away the most recognizable face out of the crew—was ‘a leader and enforcer.’ Assertions that he says are not supported by the facts included in the indictment. Montgomery acknowledged that the indictment linked Shmurda to the gun charges, but said that it did not implicate him in drug sales or as the head of any type of hierarchy, arguments he used to request a special bail hearing this Monday to reduce the amount.

It’s anyone’s best guess on how this plays out, as the GS9 crew is now facing a total of 101 charges across 17 people. The judge refused to lower the bail amount for any of the defendants and won’t commit to a date on making the decision, as he’s opting to “revisit the claim on April 22nd.” Epic records previously mentioned a willingness to pay Shmurda’s $2 million bail, but at the time of this article, it has not been paid.

Shmurda’s legal woes are derailing what many thought could be a promising career. It’ll be interesting to see if the rapper can clear these obstacles to set himself back on the right path.
