(VIDEO) APPLE'S iPHONE 6 CUSTOMERS UPSET ABOUT EASILY BENT PHONE HAVE TO PASS INSPECTION TO GET A NEW ONE

iPhone #bendgate victims face inspection to get replacement

Bent out of shape about your flimsy iPhone 6? It looks like Apple will give you a new one.

The tech giant has indicated it will replace smartphones that were bent when owners placed them in their pants pockets — but first they have to pass inspection.

The Next Web asked the company on Wednesday whether a phone that bends under pressure from sitting would be covered under warranty.

An Apple support rep said store employees at its Genius Bar will have to perform a “Visual Mechanical Inspection” on phones that customers claim are bent.

“If it is within the guidelines, they will be abel [sic] to cover it,” the employee said in an online chat with the tech site.

The rep also said the company is looking into the problem — dubbed #bendgate — with an “insane amount of detail,” according to The Next Web.

Anecdotal reports and videos making the Internet rounds show that the latest iPhone 6 with a lightweight aluminum case will bend under pressure, such as the kind applied when people put it in their back pocket and sit on it all day.

Whether this will hurt sales of the latest smartphone is unclear. The company hasn’t issued an official response to the problem.

What is clear is that the bendy iPhones — along with bugs in Apple’s newest mobile operating system — are putting pressure on the stock.

Apple pulled back on the iOS 8 upgrade after users complained about dropped cellphone service, among other problems. The company said it would release a fixed iOS 8.0.2 in the next few days.

Apple shares were down 2.3 percent, or $2.31, at $99.44 at 10 a.m. in New York trading.
