ASPIRING TATTOO ARTIST'S DEATH BLAMED ON ELEVATOR SURFING AS HIS HEAD WAS CRUSHED

Elevator surfing probed in tattoo artist’s death
TITO "BEBOO" MORALES
An aspiring tattoo artist who may have been elevator surfing was crushed to death in the Bronx on Monday morning, cops said.

Tito “Beboo” Morales, 20, was on his way to pick up a pack of cigarettes when he became wedged between the elevator and the shaft wall around 4 a.m. on the 19th floor in the Adams Houses on Tinton Avenue.

Police are investigating whether he was standing on the top of the elevator car.

Morales’ head was crushed between the elevator car and the wall.

“He was a humble guy,” said friend Joselyn Rentas, 24. “He was starting his life with his new girlfriend.”

Morales’ girlfriend, Joann Sanchez, is believed to be living in the building with her two kids, according to neighbors.

“We all can’t believe it happened,” said Angel Manuel, 20.

Though details are still unknown, residents at the Adams Houses say elevators in the building have been notoriously riddled with problems.

“The elevators are crazy, they are not safe,” said Evangelita Presinal, a friend of Morales who also lives in the building.

“They always get stuck. I got stuck like three times.”

Davis Lamont, 24, lives on the 12th floor and agrees that elevators in the building have often been plagued with numerous problems.

“The doors wouldn’t open and the elevators would ride up,” he said. “I was just sorry that someone lost their life dealing with the elevator.”

A representative from the New York City Housing Authority referred all inquires to the NYPD.

The last time an elevator inspection was conducted at the building was in January 2013, according to the Buildings Department website.
