R. KELLY |
The controversial performer, who has been embroiled throughout the years over sexual misconduct allegations involving minors, has three children with ex-wife, Andrea Kelly, who stars in the reality show “Hollywood Exes.” Andrea reportedly filed court papers Feb. 13 stating that Kelly was in arrears and had failed to pay $20,833 a month in child support.
Last year, the “King of R&B” also allegedly fell behind in child support payments to the tune of $100,000 but eventually satisfied his obligations.
One of Kelly’s attorneys allegedly told Andrea’s camp that if he fails to show up to his upcoming child support/custody hearing, he could be looking at a jail term of 30 days to six months. Apparently, Kelly failed to make his November court hearing.
A source told the New York Post, “The judge was clear in November that he wasn’t happy R. Kelly didn’t show up. His lawyer is worried the judge could lock Kelly up if he doesn’t show this time, but he can’t reach his client.”
The source also told the daily paper that Kelly reportedly owes his law firm thousands of dollars as well.
According to The Post, a number of sources told them that Kelly is lying low and has not been seen or heard from; the man has made himself totally “unreachable.” One of the sources told the paper that if Kelly does not surface soon, the law firm representing him will be forced to withdraw themselves from his child support and custody legal battles.
Kelly, a Grammy Award winner who has sold over 40 million albums to date, also reportedly owes money to a few people who worked on his last album, “Black Panties” which debuted at Number 4 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Over recent years, Kelly has faced a quagmire of financial indebtedness, from owing millions to Uncle Sam to having a home auctioned off this year due to an unpaid mortgage.
