Paul Walker — the blue-eyed hunk best known for his recurring role in the “Fast and the Furious” car racing movies — perished in a fiery sports car crash north of Los Angeles on Saturday.

Walker died in the passenger seat of a cherry-red Porsche Carrera, after the car struck a pole in a business park in Valencia and burst into flames.

“Sadly, I must confirm that Paul did pass away this afternoon,” his rep, Ame Van Iden, said.

The star’s death at age 40, also confirmed Saturday night on his Twitter and Facebook pages, is as ironic as it is tragic.

Walker, a resident of Santa Barbara, Ca. and the father of a 15-year-old girl, rose to fame as “Brian O’Conner” in the popular movie franchise, in which illegal street racing and daring heists figure prominently.

Investigators gather evidence at the burned wreckage following a car crash the killed actor Paul Walker and another man in Santa Calrita, Calif. Saturday.
The Porsche was reduced to a charred pile of metal, reported the website of the local paper, the Santa Clarita Valley Signal.

“Him and his buddy, his brother in arms at heart just decided to joyride, take a spin,” the Web site quoted Antonio Holmes, who said he was a friend of Walker’s and who witnessed the crash’s blazing aftermath.

“It was engulfed in flames,” said Holmes, who said he and others of Walker’s pals had also been out driving and rushed to the scene with fire extinguishers.

“They were trapped… We tried, we tried,” the anguished friend said.

The Santa Clarita Sherriff's office said through a spokesman that they were investigating the accident.

A poster on Walker’s Facebook page wrote Saturday night Walker had been attending a charity event for his organization “Reach Out Worldwide” at the time of the accident.

“We too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news,” read the post, which was signed #TeamPW.

Walker was working on the latest “Fast and Furious” installation at the time of his death. He also stars in the suspense drama, “Hours,” a film set for release this month.
