MARY J BLIGE |
Joining Blige as a special guest will be fellow Grammy Award winner and Verve Music Group chairman David Foster, who produced "A Mary Christmas." That evening he’ll double as music director for the live orchestra and choir that will accompany Blige.
Complementing the hour-long broadcast will be narrative from Blige about the meaning of Christmas and the making of the album, which marks the first collaboration between her and Foster. Featuring such holiday gems as “The Christmas Song,” “The First Noel” and “This Christmas,” the set also finds Blige pairing with Barbra Streisand (“When You Wish Upon a Star”) and Jessie J (“Do You Hear What I Hear”), among others. "A Mary Christmas" was released Oct. 15 through Matriarch/Verve.
Blige is set to perform between 8-10 songs on the night. Viewers will be able to order a special HSN bundle that includes the 12-track holiday album plus an exclusive download of six Blige classics: “Be Without You,” “Family Affair,” “One,” “Mr. Wrong,” “Real Love” and “No More Drama.”
“Mary has been a partner on our network for some time,” says Andy Sheldon, chief creative officer of HSNi and GM of HSN Productions. “The audience loves her.”
In fact, Blige’s upcoming appearance signals her third visit to HSN. Their partnership dates back to 2010 when the singer launched her first perfume, "My Life." Its launch broke previous HSN fragrance sale records, racking up more than 60,000 units. Blige performed her first HSN concert the next year on behalf of new album "My Life II … The Journey Continues (Act 1)." Coupled with the 2011 four-song mini-concert and album was the launch of her second perfume, "My Life Blossom."
