MICHELLE OBAMA |
First lady Michelle Obama delivers remarks on childhood obesity at the annual meeting of the National Council of La Raza in New Orleans on July 23.
Instead, the first lady has joined forces with some big names in the hip-hop industry, including Ashanti, Run DMC, Doug E. Fresh and Monifah.
Titled "Songs for a Healthier America," the album — out next month — will feature 19 tracks, including "U R What You Eat" and "Veggie Luv."
The album, which will be distributed in New York City schools before being sent to other major cities, is being released by the Partnership for a Healthier America and Hip Hop Public Health.
Let's Move! director Sam Kass told MTV's Rap Fix that the idea behind the album is to "give these messages to kids in a way that’s not preachy."
"I think hip-hop in particular — so many kids love hip-hop. It’s such a core part of our culture," he said, "... particularly in the African-American community and the Latino community, which is being disproportionately affected by those health issues."
One of the music videos — "Everybody," featuring Doug E. Fresh, Dr. Oz, Ryan Beatty and the Hip Hop MD — is already out.
The first lady teamed up with BeyoncĂ© for another Let's Move! campaign in 2011, remixing “Get Me Bodied” to create "Move Your Body," a flash workout for children.
