Mars Inc. asked a small fish and chips shop to put up a disclaimer concerning their deep-fried Mars bars.
The multinational said that deep-frying isn't in line with the candy company's supposed commitment to "healthy active lifestyles."
The Carron Fish Bar prides itself as being the birthplace of the "world famous deep-fried Mars bar." They sell between 100 and 150 bars every week, primarily to tourists.
Although Mars Inc. is flattered shop owners Lorraine and Charlie Watson like the candy bars, the company apparently doesn't pride itself on being associated with their small shop in Stonehaven, Scotland.
Evie Kyriakides, Mars's senior regional trademark counsel, wrote the couple a letter expressing the company's worry about their creation, reports The Scotsman.
Mars Inc. is concerned that the public might think the product is "associated with, or endorsed by Mars."

| The Deep Fried Mars bar was asked to be discontinue due to conflicts with it's image to promote a healthy candy bar. It is now sold at Carron Fish bar in Scotland and sells 100 bars a week. |
The company also doesn't think the deep fried product coincides with the chocolate giant's stated commitment to healthy lifestyles.
"We are also concerned that your products are not in line with our marketing code, through which we promote a healthy active lifestyle to consumers and treats in moderation," the letter read.
Mars intends to cut the calories in its chocolate bars to 250 calories per portion by the conclusion of 2013, according to Food & Drink Europe. The company has also reduced the level a saturated fat from their Mars bar recipe.
To prevent customer confusion, the corporation asked The Carron Fish Bar to display the following disclaimer in their store: "Mars is a registered trade mark of Mars Incorporated. Our use of Mars is not authorised or endorsed by Mars Incorporated."
The request surprised Lorraine. "I really feel they are giving me a slap on the wrist," she told the Daily Record. "I think it's sad that it's come to this but I am quite happy to put a disclaimer up because my intention was not to offend the Mars bar product."
