SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Fire crews have confirmed they found one man dead after an explosion inside a home ignited a fire.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to a house fire located at 19334 SW 120 Ave., at around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday. Officials said a neighbor called 911 after hearing an explosion.
When fire officials arrived at the home they were confronted with heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof at the front part of the house. Crews were able to put out the fire and found that section of the home's roof completely gone. "It was burned through the roof and the rafters," said Miami-Dade Fire Battalion Chief Paul Estopinan.
Officials later discovered one man dead inside. Family and friends arrived visibly upset after their loved one was confirmed dead. "It's really sad," said Elza Missial, a neighbor.
Estopinan said they continue to investigate, but they believe they know at least where the explosion may have ignited. "We think it might be the front of the house, but we're not sure," he noted. "That was the heavy part of the fire, the front part of the house."
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue deemed the house a complete loss. Officials continue to investigate what caused the fatal explosion and fire.
A dog was rescued from the home and is now in the care of the humane society.
