The car, dubbed the Sea Lion, tackles both roads and water — topping speeds of 125 mph on land and reaching 60 mph in the water, according to its creator, Marc Witt.
He has been tinkering with the project since 2006 — but now wants to unload it.
“I will remain available as a consultant, engineer, machinist and psychiatrist for whoever decides to venture further into the amphibious record books,” Witt wrote on the website Fantasy Junction.
The Sea Lion, made of aluminum with a Mazda engine, is one of 25 car-boat hybrids gunning for the title of “world’s fastest amphibious land speed vehicle” from Guinness World Records, according to the listing.
Witt is looking for a new owner who will soup up the Sea Lion’s engines and put it through speed trials. “It has great potential to hold the land record for many years to come,” he wrote.

With these numbers, the Sea Lion is a standout among 25 contenders currently vying for the title of "world's fastest amphibious land speed vehicle," courtesy of the Guinness World Records. For now, however, Guinness has no plans to announce a winner.
This extra time could allow the Sea Lion to reach even higher speeds, provided that the future owner is willing to invest in some upgrades - on top of the $259,500 price tag.
"The current engine is a Mazda Rotary 13b . . . The engine should be upgraded to a Renesis Rx8 unit, and the old engine saved for an SB100 registration, at some later date, if that becomes a goal for the owner,” Witt wrote in the press release.
That said, he's willing to act as "a consultant, engineer, machinist and psychiatrist for whoever decides to venture further into the amphibious record books."
