Last year when the Miami Heat managed to convince free agents Chris Bosh and Lebron James to combine their talents with that of Dwayne Wade, they were thought by many to be the best squad ever assembled on paper. The Heat came close to winning it all, but fell short when they were beaten by the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals.
With another year of playing together the Heat figure to only get better, and will be the favorite out of the Eastern Conference to make it back to the finals.
The current favorite out of the Western Conference would have to be the Mavericks, considering they are the defending champs, but the road back to the championship might actually lead through Los Angeles, not Dallas if the Lakers get their wish.
The Lakers are in heavy pursuit of Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard and point guard Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets. Both players are the best in the NBA at their positions. Combine their talents with that of Kobe Bryant's and you would have a team not many would be able to compete with.
Obtaining the services of Paul and Howard would require the Lakers to trade their most talented players Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom. According to various reports, the Lakers are more than willing to trade anyone on their roster outside of Kobe to make these deals happen.
If the Lakers are somehow able to pull this off would they be the most talented team the NBA has ever seen?
