Bob Marley’s heirs are betting Dad would be proud to lend his name to “the world’s first global cannabis brand.”

The late reggae legend’s family has signed a deal with Privateer Holdings for Marley Natural, a premium pot line cultivated from “heirloom Jamaican cannabis strains inspired by those Bob Marley enjoyed.”

The private-equity firm is also investing in a range of other pot-derived products, including hemp-infused lotions and accessories, that will capitalize on the growing legalized marijuana industry.
Marley was a fan of what he liked to call “the herb,” which he said “brought him inner peace and furthered his creativity,” according to a statement from his family on Tuesday.

Besides a best-selling recording artist, Jamaica-born Bob Marley was a follower of the Rastafari religion, which considered ganja, or marijuana, to be a sacrament.
“My husband believed ‘the herb’ was a natural and positive part of life, and he felt it was important to the world. He looked forward to this day,” Rita Marley, Bob’s wife, added.

Privateer said the exclusive deal with Marley’s heirs, including daughter Cedella and son Rohan, is a 30-year global licensing agreement. Financial terms weren’t disclosed.

“We’re talking about a brand that has immediate global name recognition,” said Brendan Kennedy, Privateer’s chief executive and co-founder.
