DONNELL RAWLINGS |
“I want your client to appear like every other person facing criminal charges,” Judge Alexander Tisch said sternly to the lawyer representing Donnell Rawlings. “There’s a lot of busy people out there.”
Defense attorney Lawrence Wiessman was trying to enter a guilty plea on behalf of the absent 43-year-old to Driving While Ability Impaired, a violation, as part of a plea deal.
Rawlings license would be suspended for 90 days and he’d have to complete a drunk driving program in California where he lives – but the judge nixed the deal.
Weissman took responsibility for the snafu and said he thought he had permission from the court.
Rawlings, best known for playing Ashy Larry on Comedy Central’s hit series “Chappelle’s Show,” was busted after cops spotted him driving the wrong way down a one-way street in Midtown last July. He blew a .12 on a Breathalyzer.
“The situation is already behind me,” he said when reached by phone. “I’m ready to move on and do what I do best which is make people laugh.”
