A woman, who has not been identified by police, was taken away from Catholic Charities' Head Start Early Childhood Development Center in Northwest Miami-Dade, Thursday.
This comes a day after a confession a 3-year-old girl told her mother. "She was so afraid to tell me because she love people and she just want to have friends, and she told her that she would be her friend. That's all my baby wanted was to have friends," said the victim's mother, who was not named in order to protect the identity of the young victim.
The confession was taken to Miami-Dade Police and the center administrators. The Archdiocese of Miami which runs Catholic Charities' said the teacher has worked at the school for more then 20 years and always passed background checks, but are taking the child's claims seriously.
The Archdiocese released a statement that read in part: "Upon learning of this allegation today, Catholic Charities' administrators reported it to the Department of Children and Families and are fully cooperating with the investigation by the Miami-Dade Police Department."
As of now, police are not revealing the identity of the teacher. Detectives have not arrested or charged her with any crimes.
Officers said they are investigating if the claims from the 3-year-old are true.
The alleged victim's mother is concerned her daughter my not be the only victim. "She also tells me that she does it to other kids and check their private parts with the pencil," said the mother in tears. "She was doing it to all the boys and girls."
"I feel like my child is not safe in this school," said a concerned parent.
The alleged victim had just started school for the first time, several months ago. Her mother said she trusted the school. "You don't expect for this to happen by being a religious school," said the mother. "She was always talking about God with me when I came. She was very fond of my child, and my child was fond of her. I didn't think she would do that to her."
The Archdiocese said the employee in question did pass an FBI and a FDLE investigation before she was hired, and has had background checks every year.
