(VIDEO) GIANCARLO ESPOSITO NARRATES NEW VIDEO GAME "DESTINY" TRAILER

Bungie, the creators of the blockbuster Halo franchise, are busy creating and hyping their upcoming cross-platform, cross-generation “shared world shooter” Destiny.
The latest glimpse of this new world is a combination of live-action and CGI intended to give gamers a sense of the universe they’ll be stepping into when the game launches on Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, and Xbox One.

Bungie and Activision are also promising some actual gameplay footage at E3, but for now the CG is pretty enough.

While I’ve griped about live-action and CG trailers before, this one was actually pretty good. Partly this is because it stars Breaking Bad’s Giancarlo Esposito who played Gus Fring in AMC’s dark drama. Esposito played one of the most interesting, frightening, and convincing villains I’ve ever seen on television.

It’s also because Esposito simply narrates a passage from Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book. “The strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack.”

Given that Destiny is a “massively single-player online game” with a shared world universe that eschews many of the ways we think about MMOs, this passage seems appropriate enough.

“The Law of the Jungle” isn’t, it turns out, “every man for himself.” It’s more akin to “no man is an island.”

Maybe the next Destiny trailer will ask for whom the bell tolls.
