The man who discovered or signed superstars such as Whitney Houston, Bruce Springsteen, Alicia Keys and Barry Manilow has come out as bisexual.
Clive Davis, a music industry legend, has revealed in his new memoir The Soundtrack of my Life he has had two long-term relationships with men.
The 80-year-old father of four said he only opened himself up to the possibility he could have a relationship with a man after his failed marriage in the mid-80s.
Speaking to Katie Couric on her talk show, Davis said: ‘I’m still attracted to women, you don’t have to be only one thing or another. For me, it’s the person.’
But the first time he had a sexual encounter with another man was during the ‘era of Studio 54’.
‘On this night, after imbibing enough alcohol, I was open to responding to his sexual overtures,’ Davis writes, saying he had only been with women before.
Being with a man, he says, provided ‘welcome relief’.
The Soundtrack of my Life is released (19 February).
