Everyone’s favorite-not-so-favorite ‘Basketball Wives’ star Evelyn Lozada has unintentionally branded herself as a trash-talking, table jumping reality star who will threaten a Bronx beatdown at any given moment, but she also has a soft, apologetic side once you get around the rough edges. She recently sat down with Vibe Magazine for a candid interview on ‘Basketball Wives Season 4′ and discussed everything from her failed relationship with Jennifer Williams and why she misses her, to her newfound friendship with Rihanna (with whom she met on Twitter) and her fiance Chad Ochocinco.
She also revealed plans to keep her last name due to the brand that she’s beginning to build.
Peep a few excerpts:
On whether she felt she could have handled her beef with Jennifer a lot differently
I think so. A lot was happening during that time. I’m one of those people, I said some things and I was just like, that was not cool. I live by loyalty and I feel like, at that point, I broke the friend code. I should have never broken that code and I should have never stooped down to that level. Like, if she wants to do interviews and slick comments, it is what it is. I don’t hate her. People just get caught up in this industry; you do interviews and say certain things. I truly don’t wish her anything negative, we’ve gone through a lot together as friends from moving out, men drama, all types of stuff. It’s just tough having to relive it then talk about it. You never have that time for healing. But now that the show is done and things are calming down, I’m not angry anymore about it and I don’t hate her at all. I don’t really hate anybody, I was just upset how things were handled.
On whether she misses Jennifer Williams
I miss her. We were friends for 10 years. I was in her wedding, so you know yeah, and your thinking you guys are going to do this show together, your BFF, and then your kind of like what happened? And we are mutual friends with a lot of people, so everything else became weird energy. It was tough.
On how she developed thick skin
I’ve accepted that this is a part of my life and apart of my world now. The more the show became popular, and I started dating Chad, its been like chaos. I’m never going to hide and I’m always one of those people that say TV can be a gift and a curse, and at the same time it’s opened up doors for me that I never would have imagined.
On what she’s learned from being on ‘Basketball Wives’
Just to probably listen. Everyone always says it on the show, ‘Evelyn goes from 0-10.’ And that’s how I’ve always been since I was 13. Where I grew up, most people wouldn’t say, Okay, let’s have a conversation. That’s not the way things were dealt with where I grew up. You running your mouth? You talking sh-t? Things happen. There’s consequences for that. I’ve learned it’s not all about screaming and yelling and, ‘Oh, you’re a fucking b-tch.’ Most of the time I don’t get my point across.[...] I was born and raised in the Bronx and went to public school in Manhattan. New York is a hustle and bustle type of place, you’re in cab getting cursed out and everyone is so high-strung. You’re always on defense mode. I love New York; I wouldn’t take anything back, but you become a little aggressive [Laughs].
On her relationship with Rihanna
We became cool on Twitter [laughs], and she’s cool! She lives her life and does what the fuck she wants and I love that about her. It’s tough because all of a sudden your supposed to be perfect and a role model to everyone and not live your life and I think she does what she needs to do, she’s young and having fun. Growing up, I didn’t necessarily say ‘oh my god! Look at Madonna I want to be just like her’, I just loved her music. I feel like people put so much pressure on these celebrities and it’s like I think parents should be role models and if you don’t want your kids watching these things then don’t. Like my daughter is almost 19 and she will tell you that growing up she had parental control for the TV, because of HBO etc. In my eyes, Rihanna can do no wrong, I think she’s an amazing artist. She’s gorgeous, handles her business, and lives her life with no apologies.
On whether she is going to drop her last name
I don’t know. I’m going to keep Evelyn Lozada for now because it’s a brand that I’m building. It’s my own little thing I got going on. We are still on the fence of that though, so we’ll see.
Former Senator John Edwards Declared Not Guilty On 1 Count, Mistrial On 5 Others
GREENSBORO, NC — Jurors cleared John Edwards on one of six criminal counts today, before a federal judge declared a mistrial on all other charges.
The panel, which had been deliberating since May 18, acquitted the former North Carolina senator on count three, an accusation that he took funny money in 2008 from sugar momma donor Rachel “Bunny” Mellon.
After US District Court Judge Catherine Eagles declared a mistrial on all remaining counts, a relieved Edwards -- who wore his lucky green tie to court today -- put his index finger to his lip, hugged daughter Cate and then embraced his parents.
Edwards' parents were relieved by the news that the former vice presidential candidate was found not guilty.
"This says it all," Edwards' father Wallace said.
The pol's mother, Bobbie, added "I'm too emotional right now."
The former senator was accused of orchestrating a million-dollar scheme to use illegal funds to cover up his affair and love child with a loopy campaign groupie Rielle Hunter.
Edwards was on trial for one count of conspiracy and a single count of filing a false report. He faced two more counts of taking bad money from a long-time supporter, the late Frederick Baron.
Jurors were deadlocked on all those counts and one additional count tied to Mellon.
The 101-year-old banking heiress Mellon, who was too ill to travel to the trial, had said Edwards reminded her a young John F. Kennedy.
Each charge had a maximum of five years behind bars.
Federal prosecutors will now have to decide whether they want to put Edwards through another trial, on the unsettled charges.
The trial’s abrupt ending came hours after jurors launched a wild scramble in Eagles’ courtroom.
Trial watchers practically tripped on themselves to rush into court, when it appeared jurors have reached verdicts on all counts this afternoon.
There was a gasp in court when jurors said they had, in fact, only come to unanimous agreement on count three.
Judge Eagles didn’t immediately take the verdict, and instead sent jurors back into deliberations.
Less than two hours later, jurors said they were hopelessly deadlocked on the other five counts.
That’s when Judge Eagles took the not guilty verdict on count three, and declared a mistrial on remaining charges.
Eagles seemed disappointed full verdicts could not be reached, but she told exhausted jurors to be proud of their service.
“You can hold your head up,” the judge said.
Even though Edwards is skating for now, this trial took a punishing toll on the defendant and rehashed one of the most embarrassing political implosions in recent memory.
Edwards fell from his lofty perch as the 2004 Democratic vice-presidential nominee to delusional, win-at-all-cost horndog by 2008.
The government’s case hinged largely on the credibility of former Edwards confidante Andrew Young, who testified that the White House wannabe told him that keeping Hunter off the public radar was the aide’s “most important job in the campaign.”
Young had even once claimed paternity of Edwards’ love child, in a pathetic attempt to cover up for his boss.
Even though he’s skating for now, the trial still took a huge toll on Edwards, who was forced to hear, all over again, how he cheated on dying, cancer-stricken wife Elizabeth Edwards.
Former campaign spokeswoman Jennifer Palmieri delivered the witness stand’s most emotional moment, when she described Elizabeth’s final months after she had separated from Sen. Edwards.
"But before [she died, Elizabeth] expressed concerns because she didn't want to be alone," said Palmieri, who now works in the Obama White House.
"When she and John separated… she was concerned there would not be a man around to love her and I said: 'I would be there.' "

NY Yankees Catcher Had His Feelings Hurt By The Umpire In Anaheim
ANAHEIM – Russell Martin had to deal with more than just the Angels behind the plate Wednesday night.
The Yankees' catcher had a bizarre back and forth with home plate umpire Laz Diaz, widely considered one of the most inconsistent umps in the game.
The Yankees' catcher had a bizarre back and forth with home plate umpire Laz Diaz, widely considered one of the most inconsistent umps in the game.
"Laz actually hurt my feelings," Martin said. "The umpire wouldn't let me throw the ball back to the pitcher. That's never happened to me before. That's a good story, right?
"He said that it was a privilege that I had to earn, for me to throw the ball back. Because we kind of got into it with balls and strikes or whatever.
"That was strange. I was kind of mystified."
Martin said the initial refusal came in the second inning, then continued all night during the Yankees' 6-5 win over the Angels.
"Even at the end of the game, after I got hit in the neck, I'm like, 'Can I throw the ball back now?'" Martin said. "He's still like, 'No.' ... Unbelievable."
Martin said he likes throwing the ball back to the pitcher to keep his arm warmed up, especially if there are runners on base during a tight game. Despite repeated requests, Diaz declined to hand the ball to Martin, throwing it back to the mound himself.
"He threw it back – the whole game," Martin said. "I've had umpires wanting to throw it back, and then I've asked them. I've let them know, I like to throw the ball, keep the feel, just for throwing, in case somebody steals.
"He told me I have to earn the privilege. Now, thinking back, I should have shown him the gold Rawlings sign on my glove," Martin said, referring to the fact that he won a Gold Glove in 2007.
Martin used some colorful language while discussing the situation, but he was careful to keep it PG-13 on the field. He said he felt Diaz was trying to egg him on, looking to toss him from the game.
"I feel like that's what he was trying to do," Martin said. "It wasn't going to happen.
Martin must have been very irritated by the gesture, bringing it up unprompted to reporters after the game. He said he's never had any issues with Diaz before, "but I know he can hold a grudge with the best of them."
Martin took a foul ball in the neck late in the game, so Diaz took a walk to the mound as umpires will often to in order to give catchers a minute to recover. Even that gesture wasn't enough to soothe Martin, who has never shied away from speaking his mind.
"We didn't really talk much, until I got hit in the neck," Martin said. "Then he kind of had to go out to the mound. I know he didn't want to, but he did. Strange day. But a good win.”
2 Former Massachusetts Lottery Winner Accused Of Stealing Welfare Benefits
The lottery apparently wasn’t enough for two Massachusetts winners.
James Casey and Frank Basile are facing fraud charges after authorities say they collected state benefits despite winning large sums in the lottery, the Boston Globe reported.
Auditors told the newspaper that Casey, who has won more than $700,000 in the lottery since 2009 has collected $12,157 in state healthcare benefits and and more than $1,500 in food stamps.
Basile, authorities told the newspaper, has cashed in on state healthcare benefits despite winning more than $300,000 in lottery tickets over the past four years.
He told the newspaper he is a professional gambler who is eligible for benefits because of the money he loses every year.
“They look at how much you make in a year, but I lost as much,” he told the newspaper. “You win $100,000 and you lose $125,000.”
The benefits-grabbing lottery winners aren’t the first to get in trouble with the state — and public — over their benefits.
In Michigan, Amanda Clayton was arraigned for collecting state benefits after winning $700,000 from the lottery there.
“I kind of do (need the money),” she told local tv station WDIV-TV, after a reporter confronted her. “I mean I have no income and I have bills to pay. I have two houses"
Biker Blows By Police Doing Close To 200 MPH On NYS Thruway
ROSENDALE, N.Y. — Authorities say a 28-year-old Hudson Valley man has been charged with driving his motorcycle at nearly 200 mph in the rain on the New York State Thruway.
State police say a trooper clocked Anthony Anderson of Poughkeepsie driving at 193 mph around 8 p.m. Wednesday in the southbound lanes of Interstate 87 just south of Albany. The trooper was able to get a description of the high-performance bike and alerted nearby Thruway patrols.
Troopers eventually stopped Anderson in the Ulster County town of Rosendale. Troopers say he told them he was headed to a Poughkeepsie-area hospital to visit a patient.
Anderson was issued 14 traffic tickets, including one for speeding.
He has been released from the county jail after posting $1,500 bail. It couldn’t be immediately determined if he had a lawyer.
11 Year Old Syrian Boy Covers His Body In His Brother's Blood To Avoid Being Murdered
BEIRUT — When the gunmen began to slaughter his family, 11-year-old Ali el-Sayed says he fell to the floor of his home, soaking his clothes with his brother’s blood to fool the killers into thinking he was already dead.
The Syrian boy tried to stop himself from trembling, even as the gunmen, with long beards and shaved heads, killed his parents and all four of his siblings, one by one.
The youngest to die was Ali’s brother, 6-year-old Nader. His small body bore two bullet holes — one in his head, another in his back.
“I put my brother’s blood all over me and acted like I was dead,” Ali told The Associated Press over Skype on Wednesday, his raspy voice steady and matter-of-fact, five days after the killing spree that left him both an orphan and an only child.
Ali is one of the few survivors of a weekend massacre in Houla, a collection of poor farming villages and olive groves in Syria’s central Homs province. More than 100 people were killed, many of them women and children who were shot or stabbed in their houses.
The killings brought immediate, worldwide condemnation of President Bashar Assad, who has unleashed a violent crackdown on an uprising that began in March 2011. Activists say as many as 13,000 people have been killed since the revolt began.
U.N. investigators and witnesses blame at least some of the Houla killings on shadowy gunmen known as shabiha who operate on behalf of Assad’s government.
Recruited from the ranks of Assad’s Alawite religious community, the militiamen enable the government to distance itself from direct responsibility for the execution-style killings, torture and revenge attacks that have become hallmarks of the shabiha.
In many ways, the shabiha are more terrifying than the army and security forces, whose tactics include shelling residential neighborhoods and firing on protesters. The swaggering gunmen are deployed specifically to brutalize and intimidate Assad’s opponents.
Activists who helped collect the dead in the aftermath of the Houla massacre described dismembered bodies in the streets, and row upon row of corpses shrouded in blankets.
“When we arrived on the scene we started seeing the scale of the massacre,” said Ahmad al-Qassem, a 35-year-old activist. “I saw a kid with his brains spilling out, another child who was no more than 1 year old who was stabbed in the head. The smell of death was overpowering.”
The regime denies any responsibility for the Houla killings, blaming them on terrorists. And even if the shabiha are responsible for the killings, there is no clear evidence that the regime directly ordered the massacre in a country spiraling toward civil war.

Pastor Receives Death Threats After Boy "Sings No Homos Going To Heaven" In Church
An Indiana pastor is reportedly fielding death threats after footage surfaced of his congregation going wild for a tiny tot singing an anti-gay hymn.
The clip went viral on Wednesday and features a young boy crooning a song about God and bible verses, including the lyrics, “Ain’t no homo gonna make it to heaven.”
Since it hit the blogosphere, the church, identified as the Apostolic Truth Tabernacle Church in Greensburg, Indiana, has received harassing phone calls, and its pastor, Jeff Sangl, has even gotten death threats at home, members told TMZ.com.
The website reports the church is “on lockdown” and members are taking turns watching over the property.
Sangl fears for his safety and he and his wife fled for vacation Wednesday morning without telling anyone where they were going, one member told TMZ.com.
Representatives of the church could not be reached for comment by the Daily News.
Viewers online were jolted by the video — and by how young its star appears to be.
Gawker writer Neetzan Zimmerman likened the video to child abuse.
“What makes this particular demonstration of intolerance so shocking is just how young this congregant is. Believing him to be no older than five, some are calling the church’s treatment of the boy out-and-out child abuse.”
Others were appalled by the congregation’s overwhelmingly positive response to the performance.
“Listen to the applause he’s getting for spouting hate!” wrote one commenter on YouTube.
Author Anne Rice posted the video on her Facebook page, writing: “In this country, Christians can teach toddlers to hate and to persecute, and we, through the automatic tax exemption for churches, foot the bill.”
Despite the uproar and reported threats, church members told TMZ.com they don’t regret that the video surfaced online.
“The people who are upset just don’t reach the word of God,” an unnamed member of the church told the website. “If we don’t teach the children the truth early they will never learn.
“Of course we applauded a child who is singing a song about God.”

Estate of Man Who Died Having a Threesome Awarded $3 Million in Medical Malpractice Suit
The family of William Martinez, the Georgia man who died on March 12, 2009 while engaging in a threesome with a friend and woman other than his wife, was awarded $3 million in a medical malpractice suit. Why? Because he died one week after being seen by a cardiologist and one day before he was scheduled to have a heart stress test, reports the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
The attorneys representing the estate of Martinez claimed that Dr. Sreenivasulu Gangasanifailed to take a comprehensive medical history of the 31-year-old husband and father of two, who suffered with high blood pressure and was at high risk of having clogged heart arteries. When Martinez came in complaining of pain radiating from his arm, Gangasani checked him out and told him to return in eight days for a heart stress test.
Unfortunately, the threesome proved too much for his heart and he didn’t make it.
Should Diddy’s son accept a scholarship to play football at UCLA?
A few years back when Master P’s son Romeo Miller was awarded a basketball scholarship to the University of Southern California, critics blasted the family for taking a scholarship from a more needy student athlete. Now, another rapper’s child is headed to play college ball in the City of Angels, triggering a similar debate. Should Sean “Diddy” Combs’ son Justin accept a scholarship to play football at UCLA, or should a man who has made a living dousing women in Ciroc foot the bill for his own child’s education?
Initially, I thought Justin Combs’ scholarship was hard earned, and something he should both accept and take pride in. While his dad could pay for it, there’s something to be said for being rewarded for your own accomplishments.
Combs is, after all, a child who grew up in the lap of luxury and has probably been given everything he’s asked for to date. So taking this away from him just because his dad can afford college sends an already likely entitled child into adulthood with a very conflicted message. This isn’t like Romeo Miller being rewarded a full ride to USC because the school wanted to land his buddy, McDonald’s All American Demar DeRozan. Combs worked hard, and was rewarded accordingly.
That said, come the freak on, this is Diddy’s kid we’re talkin’ about! Justin had an internationally televised sweet sixteen party that allegedly cost seven figures. He has restaurants named after him. He has been getting free lapdances since he reached puberty. And oh yeah, his dad is indeed loaded. Diddy probably drops that $54,000 annual tuition on a typical party weekend. Or, heck, maybe a party night.
Is there a strange double standard here? Yes, rich kids receive academic scholarships all the time, but bigtime college athletics is a bit different. By taking a scholarship that he earned, but could likely afford on his own, Combs is taking a spot away from a player who might elect to go elsewhere, rather than foot his own bill as a walk-on, which in theory would hurt the team as a whole. There’s an “i” in “Justin”, but there’s no “i” in team.
Just cut the check already, Diddy.
We want your take on the burning issue of celebrity entitlement. Do you agree or disagree?
Is Beyonce Pregnant Again?
Beyonce may be with child again, according to Hello Beautiful.
Now, forget the fact that her career is the king of her life, but she seemingly managed to squeeze out Blue Ivy in between albums. The internets are saying this isn’t even a rumor, but its a FACT that B is about to give Blue Ivy a brother or sister.
The rumors are saying that B and Jay are looking to drop the new bambino next year and that she is presently 2 months in.
I, like others, wonder if B is really going to take more time off to have a baby. Certainly, if she is preg, we are happy for her. Wonder if she breast feeds? Awkward weird though
Sex Tape Of Two Students Played At High School Graduation Ceremony
A student in Denmark shared much more about his high school experience with his family and friends than he anticipated last week, when a videotape of him having sex was played during his school’s graduation festivities.
The X-rated clip of the student having sex with a woman began to play in a video presentation celebrating the graduates of the Gammel Hellerup Gymnasium school near Copenhagen, shocking the 400 to 500 people in the crowd.
“It started with some pictures of them and you thought it was fun. But it then turned into a sex video,” a student told Danish website Politiken. “Everyone was shocked – but no-one turned it off. It was clearly too much and the 30 seconds the film lasted, felt a very long time."
It is not clear if the student or the woman involved knew the footage was taken of them, but it appeared to be hidden camera video, the school’s Headmaster Jorgen Rasmussen told The Copenhagen Post.
School officials believe it was intentionally placed in the presentation, which included photos and videos from students, and have identified and punished the students who edited the tape.
Rasmussen said the student featured in the tape is not in trouble and should consider legal action against whoever obtained and revealed the racy footage.
“We’ve agreed not to press charges,” Rasmussen said, according to The Copenhagen Post. “However, we have encouraged the two young people who appear in the video to proceed with the case. It is really them, and not the school, that was violated.”
ALLEN IVERSON Throw My Wife in Jail!!!
NBA legend Allen Iverson believes his wife should be locked up for ransacking his house while he was out of the country -- this according to new legal docs.
A.I. recently filed a motion for contempt in Georgia against his estranged wife Tawanna Iverson, claiming he had a basketball gig in Asia earlier this month ... and when he returned home, his house was totally gutted.
According to the docs, Iverson's wife infiltrated his home while he was gone -- pillaging furniture, art, memorabilia ... and a large sum of cash.
Iverson says he's asked Tawanna several times to return the stuff -- but so far, she's refused. Tawannna and A.I. have been warring since she filed for divorce last year. Last month she requested a restraining order, claiming her ex was harassing and threatening her.
Now, A.I. wants a judge to hold Tawanna in contempt for harassing him ... and throw her in jail ... at least until she returns the stolen goods. He also wants an order barring her from entering the home.
The judge has yet to rule.
Brazilian DJ Paints Himself Green Like The Hulk And Can't Remove It
Enrique Dos Santos & Mother |
A muscle-bound Brazilian deejay decided to paint himself green like the Marvel comic book character so he could stand out from the other runners in a local race.
But instead of using body paint, 35-year-old Enrique dos Santos opted for an industrial paint the military uses on ballistic missiles and nuclear submarines, local papers reported.
And while the hapless Dos Santos, known in the town of Vila Cruzeiro as MC Marronzinho, was aiming for the Hulk — he wound up looking more like a sorry Shrek.
It took 24 hours of scrubbing by his frantic mother as well as countless friends before they were able to return Dos Santos to something close to his normal color.
As if that wasn’t embarrassing enough, one of the town’s papers ran a photo of Dos Santos’ exasperated mom scrubbing her son and identified her as his girlfriend.
Minus the paint, Dos Santos bears no resemblance to Banner, a thoughtful scientist who transforms into the raging Hulk in times of danger.

All Her Exes Were In Miami This Week But Was Rihanna With J.R. Smith???
Meek Mill and Chris Brown were going back and forth on Twitter about her but she was spotted in Miami with Drake and most importantly NY Knicks star J.R. Smith. Maybe it's time for RiRi to decide on one.
Rihanna definitely has a type. Sources tell us that the "We Found Love" singer has found another tattooed bad boy to stoke her considerable passion: New York Knick J.R. Smith. We hear the danger-loving Barbadian beauty and the ballplayer have been quietly keeping time together for weeks, and one down-South source tells us that they were "definitely hanging out" in Miami this weekend after Smith's run-in with cops there on Thursday. Smith, 26, was picked up in South Beach on an outstanding bench warrant for driving without a valid license. He reportedly bonded out on Friday, in plenty of time to hang with the pulchritudinous pop star over the Memorial Day weekend, and that coincided with the culmination of Urban Beach Week, which the Miami Herald called "South Beach's biggest party of the year." Our source says Rihanna, 24, partied at LIV nightclub in Miami's Fontainebleau Hotel Sunday night and was joined there by Smith.
Rihanna definitely has a type. Sources tell us that the "We Found Love" singer has found another tattooed bad boy to stoke her considerable passion: New York Knick J.R. Smith. Is It Officially Over For G-Unit???
The 'unity' element of G-Unit appears to have faded as group leader 50 Cent now reveals the status of estranged member Lloyd Banks and why they have not talked in nearly a year.
According to Fif, Banks' youth and personal habits have swayed him away from keeping in close contact for nine months."He goes through these things where there's no communication and he goes off and does what he wants, it's set at that point because I've spent marketing dollars so he can go wherever he wants to go and actually go do shows, make money and do other things," 50 told radio host Big Boy. "At that point, it's fine for him to move around and go do it by himself. I want them to be individuals and operate on their own away from me, I'm fine with it. ... We can get on the phone together, but I haven't spoken to him. I haven't spoken to Banks in nine months. But this is not the first time this has happened. He's a baby. He's the youngest in the actual G-Unit, he got really rich at 19. Both him and Tony [Yayo] have made over nine million dollars. With [Young] Buck, it was almost eight million dollars."

After Long Drawn Out Search, Miami Dolphins To Appear On HBO's Hard Knocks
After a drawn-out offseason process, HBO has decided to showcase the Miami Dolphins on this summer's version of the hit reality TV series "Hard Knocks."
HBO announced Tuesday that the Dolphins would be the newest subject of its popular reality series documenting NFL training camps. The seventh season premieres Aug. 7, with four more one-hour episodes airing on subsequent Tuesdays. The New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons both were mentioned as potential selections for this season, but sources told ESPN both franchises declined to be on the show.
The Dolphins are entering the season -- also the 40th anniversary of the only perfect season in NFL history -- with a new head coach and a rookie quarterback selected with the No. 8 overall pick in April's draft.
"We are delighted that 'Hard Knocks' will be returning this summer and placing the spotlight on the Miami Dolphins, a venerable franchise that had an exciting off-season activity," HBO Sports president Ken Hershman said in a statement announcing the decision. "This marks the first time that the series has featured a first-year head coach (Joe Philbin) and we are extremely grateful to both Coach Philbin and the entire organization for agreeing to participate. As always, there will be plenty on the line for veterans, free agents and rookies." Owner Stephen Ross hired Philbin in January after the Dolphins' seventh below-.500 season in the past eight years. Philbin, who as the Green Bay Packers' offensive coordinator helped mold quarterback Aaron Rodgers, drafted Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill with Miami's first-round pick in April.
Tannehill is expected to compete with incumbent Matt Moore and veteran addition David Garrard for the Dolphins' starting job, although Ross has said he expects Moore to be the starter this season.
Miami's role on "Hard Knocks" makes sense for a team and owner that have chased big names, big headlines and big stars, largely in vain, for much of the past few years. While failing to land high-profile names such as quarterback Peyton Manning and coaches Jeff Fisher and Jim Harbaugh, Ross has sold minority stakes in team ownership to celebrities including singers Marc Anthony and Gloria Estefan and tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams. The Dolphins even boast a red-carpet entrance at their home games for celebrities attending the game.
"The Miami Dolphins have long been synonymous with success on the field as evidenced by our five Super Bowl appearances and the only perfect season in NFL history," Philbin said in a statement. "That heritage serves as a constant reminder to our players and staff of the great legacy that has been left for us to uphold. Our team embraces that rich past and looks confidently to the future as we begin this journey back to the top of the NFL."All the decisions that have been made this offseason have had one guiding principle -- will it help our players and organization reach its full potential? This one is no different. We are convinced that our affiliation with NFL Films and HBO will allow football fans everywhere an opportunity to comprehend the significant sacrifices and demands that our players endure each day along their journey in training camp as a Miami Dolphin."
"Hard Knocks" won three Sports Emmys for its portrayal of the Jets in 2010. The show, which is co-produced with NFL Films, has been on the air intermittently since its debut in 2001 with the Baltimore Ravens, and did not air last season due to the NFL lockout.
In subsequent years, the Dallas Cowboys (2002 and 2008), Kansas City Chiefs (2007), Cincinnati Bengals (2009) and Jets have been featured.
Chagas Disease Is An Incurable Parasitic Infection Called "New AIDS"
Disease is transmitted by blood sucking insects mostly found in impovershed areas |
A parasitic infection called Chagas Disease has similarities to the early spread of HIV, according to research published recently in the journal PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases.
Like AIDS, Chagas is hard to detect and has a long incubation period before symptoms emerge, the study said, according to the New York Times.
As many as 8 million people are infected in the Western Hemisphere, mainly in Bolivia, Mexico, Columbia and Central America, as well as some 30,000 people in the U.S., the newspaper reported. Chagas infects people in areas of poverty, and most U.S. cases are found in immigrants.
Because Chagas is often left untreated, it spreads easily, either genetically or through blood transfusion. If caught early, it can be treated with intense medication, but the drugs are scarce in poor countries and very little money is invested in searching for new treatments, the paper said.
Chagas is usually transmitted from the bite of blood-sucking insects that release a parasite called Trypanosoma cruzi into the victim’s bloodstream. The parasite can eventually make its way to the heart, where it can live and multiply.
Infections often stay dormant for years, and then emerge as heart arrhythmias and heart failure. About a quarter of victims develop enlarged heart or intestines that can lead to sudden death if they burst, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
New research suggests Chagas may have led to the death of Charles Darwin — one of the great medical mysteries.
Researchers from the University of Maryland School of Medicine believe Darwin suffered from three different illnesses, including a Chagas infection contracted on a voyage to the Andes in South America, the Wall Street Journal reported earlier this month.
Darwin wrote in his diary that he was bitten by a “great wingless black bug” during the trip in 1835. He died 47 years later of heart failure.
Former 2X Welterweight Champion Boxer Paul Williams Paralyzed After Motorcycle Accident
The boxer Paul Williams was speeding and was not involved in a near fender-bender with another vehicle as had previously been reported when he lost control of his motorcycle and got into an accident on Sunday that left his lower body paralyzed, an on-the-scene investigation by the Marietta (Ga.) Police Department revealed that Williams, a former two-time welterweight champion, was headed eastbound on South Marietta Parkway on Sunday at 7:35 a.m. at a "high rate of speed" when he got into the accident, according to David Baldwin, the public information officer for the Marietta police.
Williams, who was driving a modified sport motorcycle, "was traveling too fast for conditions (and) could not negotiate a curve and left the roadway," Baldwin said in a statement. "The motorcycle crashed into an embankment and Williams suffered serious injuries."
The investigation into the accident also revealed that "speed was the only contributing factor and that there were no other cars involved," Baldwin later said in a phone interview with the Daily News. That last part contradicts statements made by Williams' longtime manager, George Peterson, to the Daily News and other media outlets that Williams was trying to avoid a car when he lost control of his bike.
"He was traveling too fast for conditions and couldn't negotiate a curve," Baldwin said. "And the bike left the roadway."
Baldwin doubted that alcohol was a factor in the accident since the investigation didn't reveal that Williams had been drinking and because Williams was not known to drink.
"From what our investigation revealed there were no vehicles involved," Baldin repeated. "Speed was the only contributing factor."
Baldwin couldn't say how fast Williams was going but his manager said he was going around 70 miles-per-hour at the time of the accident. Williams was transported by Metro Ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital "in serious condition," Baldwin said.
Baldwin also said that charges were pending against Williams but did not say what those charges would be.
Investigators for the Marietta Police asked him to include that "charges are pending at this time" in the released statement without elaborating on the charges, he told the Daily News. The case remains under investigation.
Williams was the only one injured in the wreck.
"The investigators asked me to put that last line in," Baldwin said. "Could it be a suspended license? I don't know. It could be wreck related. I just don't know at this time."

WILL SMITH TALKS ABOUT WHY HE SLAPPED THAT MALE REPORTER WHO KISSED HIM
Will Smith appeared on the Dave Letterman Show and talked about the incident that went viral last week. Will was over in Moscow attending a premiere of his new movie MIB3, when all of a sudden a male reporter asked for a hug which is strange in the first place, but Will proceeded to give him a hug and the reporter leaned in for a nice juicy kiss, he must have missed the premiere of Ali, so Will gave him a little slap on the cheek and laughed it off, saying he lucky I didn’t sucker punch him.
Will told Letterman that the incident was just awkward. Stop, Pause, and Park… see this is when I knew for sure that Will was a Hollywood dude, cause a Philly Cat would have handled that a whole different way, the slap would have been harder, no scratch that a male reporter asking for a hug, from a straight manaaaa … request would have been denied, but as soon as the reporter would have leaned in for a kiss he would have been holing his mouth looking down at the ground trying to locate all the teeth that hit the floor.
Kudos to you Will Smith for handling it like a true Diplomat
Check Out how sly David Letterman snuck that question in making it a harmless joke.
Meek Mill Confirms Rihanna Rumors, Says She Let Him “Watch The Throne”
It’s about to get real hot in here! Rumor has it that Chris Brown dropped Meek Mill’s verse off of the track “Don’t Judge Me” from his Fortune CD, because of his alleged extracurricular activities with his ex Rihanna.
Well, Meek Mill pretty much confirmed both rumors via his Twitter the other day, and threw some shade at Breezy at the same time. Check out Meek Mill’s tweet below:
Meek Mill deleted the tweet shortly after it posted, but it seems as if Chris Brown may have seen the confession. Breezy later tweeted “She’s a dream chaser! There are alot of dreamers so she’ll be running forever!”
This is subliminal overload! Rihanna’s done started a Twitter war between these two. Expect a freestyle addressing the matter from one of these two soon.

Mike Tyson Sex Tapes With Who??
Rumor has it Mike Tyson has recorded many videos of himself in the bed doing many famous celebrities. The rumor goes he’s got Janet Jackson, pre-marriage Jada Pinkett, Angie Stone, Angela Bassett and even Mary J. Blige. Now, I’m not so sure I believe this, but I got to thinking that it may be true. Mike was a beast back in the day, and I don’t mean in the bad way. I mean in the good way as a ferocious athlete. Then came that rape situation. It has been speculated that after that bid in jail, Iron Mike began to record his romps in the bed as insurance that he didn’t rape the women he knocked down. Only thing, is I’m not sure I can see these ladies doing anything with a post-rape Mike. Well, maybe Mary – lol – just kidding. Anyway, we know Robin Givens KO’d Mike back in the day and I never heard of any other chicks in his life. This may just be a crazy rumor. I don’t think we’ll see “evidence” of the truth anytime soon unless Mike REALLY wants to make some money.
Janet though?
I don’t know about this one!
Nas Regrets Not Recording for Lauryn Hill's Classic Album
During his feature interview with Complex Magazine, Nas spoke about a number of music-related topics including his classic track with Lauryn Hill "If I Ruled The World".
Shortly after, the Queensbridge rap veteran revealed that he was to make an appearance on Hill's classic LP "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" but never got the chance to due to so many things getting in the way.
"I was supposed to be on the The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill album but I was caught up with whatever and I never made it to the sessions. That's one of my greatest regrets with music. I was getting the calls to come rap on the album and something was always happening at the time when I got the call. Lisa Ellis of Sony always used to tell me, 'Man you f*cked up, you're supposed to be on that album.'"
He continued to speak on how close the two artists are with each other.
"Me and Lauryn were musical peers, we were brother and sister. We looked out and did the thing. [The Fugees] were on tour in Europe so she took the Concorde from London and flew back. We shot the video in Times Square."
HIP-HOP PRODUCER SEAN GARRETT Working for Uncle Sam Now
Hip-hop mega-producer Sean Garrett has worked with the biggest names in the business, but for the foreseeable future, a portion of every dollar he makes will go straight to the biggest name of all ... UNCLE SAM.
According to docs filed by the Georgia Department of Revenue, Garrett owes back taxes for the years 2006 and 2007 to the tune of $732,553.57.
So the government is tired of waiting for their cash, they ordered BMI, which collects royalties for artists, to hold all money Garrett makes and turn it over to them.
Garrett has produced 15 number one songs in his career -- for the likes of Beyonce, Usher, and Nicki Minaj -- so Uncle Sam should have his money in no time.

Drake Has Words For Pusha T At His D.C. Show
Young Money star Drake has reportedly taken action in light of alleged Pusha T disses directed toward him and boss Lil Wayne by going at the Clipse rapper this weekend in Washington, D.C.
Although pure speculation as of now, Drizzy got at the G.O.O.D. Music rapper by sending out a stern warning during his Club Paradise concert. Drake's YMCMB big homie Lil' Wayne put out the diss track "Goulish" a couple days ago aimed at Pusha T in response to his "Exodus 23:1" record, and now, Drizzy has some words of his own for Pusha. During his Club Paradise Tour set this weekend in Washington D.C., Drake said,
"If you was doing 16s when I was 16 and your sh*t still flopped and you switched teams, don't talk to me my n*gga." This immediately set off a ton of Tweets saying that Drake had called out Pusha on stage. And with this, the drama continues.
Nick Fairley Arrested For The Second Time In 2 Months For Alleged DUI
TILLMAN'S CORNER, Ala. -- Detroit Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley has been arrested in Alabama on charges of driving under the influence and attempting to elude police, his second arrest in his home state in two months.
Lions spokesman Bill Keenist says the team is aware of the reports and is gathering information. Fairley's agent did not immediately return a call from The Associated Press seeking comment Sunday.
Fairley also was arrested April 3 in Mobile on a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge after citizens called to complain that Fairley's Escalade was speeding through a lower-middle class neighborhood in Mobile.
Fairley was a standout at Auburn and the Lions' first-round draft pick in 2011. As a junior, he was the Lombardi award winner as the nation's top lineman and helped lead the Tigers to the 2010 national title.
However, Fairley struggled through his rookie year, playing in just 10 games because of a foot injury. He finished the season with 11 tackles and one sack.
Alabama state troopers say the 24-year-old passed a state trooper early Sunday morning at 100 mph in his Cadillac Escalade in unincorporated Mobile County. After initially refusing to stop for the trooper's emergency lights and siren, Fairley pulled over and seemed impaired. He was arrested without incident.
Fairly was also cited for reckless driving, no proof of insurance and open container. Fox10TV.com reported Fairley posted $1,750 bond and was released shortly after 9 a.m. on Sunday.Lions spokesman Bill Keenist says the team is aware of the reports and is gathering information. Lions running back Mikel Leshoure also pleaded guilty earlier in May to a marijuana possession charge, two months after police discovered him with pot in his mouth during a traffic stop in southwestern Michigan. Leshoure was also a member of the Lions' 2011 draft class, taken with the 25th pick of the second round.
Introducing The G.O.O.D Music Family
Pusha T, D'Banj, 2Chainz, Big Sean, Mr. Hudson, Teyanna Taylor, Hit-Boy, CyHi The Prince |
With the exception of label veterans John Legend and Kid Cudi, Kanye posed for a photo with all of his label signees on the set of his new short film ‘Cruel Summer,’ which was shot in Qatar. The photo includes (From left to right), Pusha T, Nigerian singer D’Banj, 2 Chainz (who knew??), Big Sean, Mr. Hudson, Teyana Taylor, Hit-Boy and CyHi The Prynce all dressed in matching Middle Eastern/Egyptian garb.
Kanye, meanwhile, has every reason to be smiling. His crew will be releasing their long-awaited G.O.O.D. Music compilation LP ‘Cruel Summer‘ in a few weeks, and many of the songs that will be featured on the album were played in the movie. Kanye used a booming surround sound set-up to shake audience members with the songs’ bass and fully immerse them in his seven-screen movie production, which stars Kid Cudi.
According to Complex:
Cruel Summer is the story of a Lamborghini car thief who falls for a beautiful blind Arabic girl who’s father will let them marry if he can help her see. So he (Kid Cudi) does using strings that lead her around palace to play music.
Kanye reportedly needed 20 camels, 100 extras, and around 20 Lambos to complete the set of the film which took four days to shoot and featured fashion by Ye as well as Arab designers.
