But colourful counter-protestors came dressed as clowns and outnumbered the protestors five to one on Saturday, responding to chants of ‘White Power’ with their own chants of ‘Dwight Power’ and ‘White Flower’.
Many of the counter-protestors were using squeaky toys, whistles and horns to drown out the amplified white supremacy speeches, NBC Charlotte reported.

‘The message from us is, you look silly,' said Lacey Williams, the youth coordinator for Charlotte’s Latin American Coalition. 'We're dressed like clowns and you're the ones that look funny.'
John Autry, a city council member, came to the event wearing a red clown nose to show his support for the counter-protesters.
‘We're just a great big happy melting pot,’ he told NBC. ‘I just wanted to come out here and make sure people understood that I did not support the views of the people behind up here with the microphones.’
