TOP SIX MOST OVERPAID ATHLETES REPORTED BY THE FANS

Alex Rodriguez, 3B, New York Yankees -- Under contract until: 2017 -- Signed 10-year, $275 million deal in 2007. If A-Rod's decline continues at a linear pace, he'll be spending 2016 on the bench giving out his phone number to chain-smoking bus drivers from Rockaway.

Mario Williams, DE, Buffalo Bills -- Under contract until: 2018 -- Signed six-year, (appx.) $100 million deal 2012. The Bills gave Williams the richest defensive contract in NFL history seven months ago. That's it. That's the joke.

                           

Michael Vick, QB, Philadelphia Eagles -- Under contract until: 2017 -- Signed six-year, $100 million deal in 2011. If Andy Reid could bench Vick right now without causing a firestorm, he totally would. Then he'd try to hire him as defensive coordinator. 

Kevin Kolb, QB, Arizona Cardinals -- Under contract until: 2016 -- Signed five-year, $65 million deal in 2011. Some bad deals you can't see coming. This was not one of them. 

Alfonso Soriano, OF, Chicago Cubs -- Under contract until: 2014 -- Signed eight-year, $136 million deal in 2006. The Cubs said earlier this month they were open to "pursuing a trade" for Soriano. I think they pronounced "see who will take him off our hands" wrong.

 

Mark Sanchez, QB, New York Jets -- Under contract until: 2017 -- Signed three-year extension worth $40.5 million in new money in 2012. When Sanchez signed his extension, he became the seventh-highest paid quarterback in the league. By the time the deal is done, he could be seventh on the Jets depth chart.

Barry Zito, P, San Francisco Giants -- Under contract until 2013: Signed seven-year, $126 million deal in 2006. The stats say a replacement-level player could have performed as well as Barry Zito over the past three seasons. Yes, but with so much less charisma and guitar-playing.
