Deal Sending Dwight Howard To The Los Angeles Lakers Is Done: Report

Dwight Howard

After weeks of uncertainy, it’s official. Dwight Howard has been traded … to the Los Angeles Lakers.
According to ESPN.com, a four-team trade was completed Thursday night (August 9) to send the superstar center out west, involving the Denver Nuggets, 76ers, Magic and Lakers.
The deal sends Howard to the the Lakers, guard Andre Iguodala is going to the Denver Nuggets, the 76ers will receive Andrew Bynum and Jason Richardson, and the Magic will get Arron Afflalo, Al Harrington, Nikola Vucevic and one protected future first-round pick from each of the three teams.
Additionally, the Magic will get the 76ers #1 draft pick Moe Harkless, a source tells ESPN.
While all teams have reportedly agreed to the terms, a trade call with the league office has been scheduled for Friday (August 10) to secure the necessary NBA approval to make the deal official.
A source told ESPN.com’s Marc Stein that Howard still plans to become a free agent after next season, so he will have time to decide whether or not he will stay with the Lakers long-term.
Lakers forward Pau Gasol was said to have been part of the trade talks, but was ultimately excluded from the deal. Also, it’s said the Sixers have gotten no assurances that Bynum will sign a long-term extension with the team either, but were open to taking the risk.
Bynum, who grew up about an hour away from Philadelphia in Plainsboro, N.J., could sign a three-year, $60 million extension this season or wait to become a free agent after the season and be eligible for a five-year, $102 million deal
