James Martin |
Marleny Cruz (Victim) |
COPS HAVE arrested a man in the chilling 1998 murder of Marleny Cruz, a 14-year-old girl found dead on a Bronx street after being sexually assaulted and strangled.
DNA evidence and a pattern of rape led the police to James Martin, who’s doing time in Pennsylvania for murder, cops said.
Martin, 40, has been indicted on murder, rape, sodomy and criminal sex act charges in the Bronx case, and is to be arraigned Thursday.
Marleny came to the U.S. from the Dominican Republic in 1993 to live with family and eventually wound up in foster care.
The chronic runaway’s body was found dumped on Valentine Ave. in University Heights on Feb. 23, 1998. Because the foster system had lost track of her, it took cops eight months to identify her.
