NICKI MINAJ |
Nicki Minaj helped America celebrate its birthday with an explosive performance at the Philly 4th of July Jam at Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia on Friday.
Following performances from Aloe Blacc, Jennifer Hudson, and Philly’s own The Roots, the leader of the Barbz stormed the stage at the free fourth annual concert, which aired live on VH1.
Showing plenty of skin in a bra and black leather sweatpants, she opened with “Super Bass” and continued with her Pink Print single “Pills N Potions.” Her Barbz sang along to “Yasss Bish!!” and Nicki threw in some of her older hits including “Did It On ‘Em” and “Beez in the Trap.”
“Ya’ll know this has always been one of my favorite places to be,” she told her Philly fans, who lined up for hours to see her. “Since before my first album dropped everybody knows that I love ya’ll, I love your energy.”
She also treated the crowd to a rare performance of her Roman Reloaded cut “Freedom,” and declared her own independence.
“Happy birthday America,” said Nicki. “Today we’re free from everybody that tried to hold us back last year. ‘Cause if they didn’t succeed last year, they not gon’ succeed this year.”
She capped off her 20-minute set with the crowd favorite “Moment 4 Life.”
