WENDY WILLIAMS WILL APPEAR IN "CHICAGO" AND IS GEARING UP FOR THE ROLE

Wendy Williams will appear as prison warden Matron “Mama” Morton in the Broadway musical “Chicago” this summer, and she’s already started prepping for the role. 

The radio DJ-turned-talk-show host says that she’s memorized the words to her character's solo tune, “When You’re Good to Mama.” “I sing it in the shower,” Williams said, but added that performing the song “is not about hitting operatic notes as much as it is about attitude and sass.

I can do that.” Williams said she’s still going to work with a vocal coach to learn to “pace my voice so I don’t blow it out. I’ve never had laryngitis before in all my years in radio, so 

I want to be very careful to spare my instrument.”

The talk maven takes over the role June 25 from current star Christine Pedi and will stay in the production through Aug. 11. 

Actresses including Queen Latifah, Sofia Vergara and “Grey’s Anatomy” star Chandra Wilson have all tackled the role of no-nonsense Mama Morton in various movie and stage productions of “Chicago.”
