The man perhaps best known to moviegoers as the voice of Darth Vader all but called the Tea Party racist in a recent interview on the Smiley and West radio program -- and the Tea Party Patriots aren't happy about it.
"This is another example of an actor playing the politics of division and deceit," said TPP National Coordinator Jenny Beth Martin. "It is time to come together as one nation to overcome the economic drag Washington politicians have imposed on all Americans."
"I think I figured out the Tea Party," the famous actor said in the radio interview. "I do understand racism because I was taught to be one by my grandmother."
Jones said his grandmother was part Indian, part black and "hated everybody. She taught all of her children and grandchildren to be racist."
Jones said this allowed him to observe others and develop his own opinions on race, and that he thinks he "knows racism better than anybody who's ever been a racist."
The interview was mainly about his role in a current Tony-nominated Broadway play, Gore Vidal's The Best Man, but turned to politics after Jones mentioned that it was difficult to tell what race Muhammad Ali was by his voice and that President Obama "has the same advantage in a way."
Jones also said he follows politics closely, particularly through MSNBC, but that he also views conservative talk shows, saying "knowledge is all over the place."
