The Free Speech Coalition CEO Diane Duke called for a moratorium on Friday “while we do research to determine if there’s been any threat to the performer pool.” According to LA Weekly, the Performer Availability Screening Services discovered the HIV positive performer during routine screening.
Industry expert Mike South reports the actor is a male, and is on the “straight side of the biz” but not a “high level performer.” “We want to make sure all performers are protected,” Duke said. “The performers’ health and safety is the most important thing.”
AIDS Healthcare Foundation President Michael Weinstein says:
“AHF is saddened by the news of yet another adult performer having been infected with HIV. We hope that this person seeks care immediately, and that others were not exposed. Whether this performer was infected in L.A. County or not, this latest news begs the question: how many people need to become infected with HIV for the County of Los Angeles to engage actively in implementing the will of the voters of LA county to protect these performers? “How many more performers need to become infected for the industry to comply with existing regulations and laws requiring workplace safety? The willful disregard by the County of Los Angeles and the Industry for the health and welfare of people is becoming more and more apparent. The industry as a whole, and the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health should be ashamed.”
