DOMONIQUE NEWBURN |
Newburn was one of four cast members of the famed 2010 docu-reality show which chronicled the lives of four gay men, each trying to achieve 15 minutes of fame in the hardknocks town of Hollywood.
Police responded to a domestic violence call from Newburn’s apartment. When they arrived, they reportedly found evidence of a struggle in and outside of the residence. There was blood on the porch and objects strewn around the home.
Investigators found that the 31-year-old transgender, who had suffered blunt trauma, was somehow trying to escape through the home’s front window.
According to police reports, after the incident, a black man, about 5’8″ and in his 20s or early 30s, was witnessed by neighbors loading a computer and some other items into the trunk of Newburn’s black Mercedes and then driving away.
The vehicle was discovered some 13 miles away from Newburn’s home and was towed to a crime lab, where it will be examined for clues that may lead to the victim’s assailant.
Even though “Hollywood Houseboys” has been on hiatus since its fourth episode three years ago, Newburn had reported just completed a shoot for the relaunching of the show.
The creator of the web series, Ryan Hope, issued a statement regarding Newburn’s murder:
“We are all deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic loss of our sister, Domonique Newburn,” he said. “Domonique was an amazing person whose spirit transcended gender. When we set out to document or lives for reality television, we never once wished to make headlines like this. Our thoughts, prayers, and condolences are with her family.”
Newburn, who once wrote on the show’s web page, “My current Hollywood ambitions are to have gender reassignment surgery … and be the first transgender to one day have a hit song on iTunes,” will undergo an autopsy to determine the final cause of death.
