(AUTOMOBILES) THE 2014 CHEVY SS

2014 Chevrolet SS — The “Four Door Corvette” Arrives
2014 CHEVY SS
Chevrolet has made massive strides in the last five years toward winning back the respect of enthusiasts, but it still lacks one thing we long for — a true performance sedan. In fact, GM as a whole lacks an affordable one (the Caddies can outrun BMWs these days, but they’re priced like ‘em, too). Not since last Pontiac G8 rolled out the door has the General had a truly affordable four-door that could lap a track with the sports cars with a child seat in the back (not recommended).
The 2014 Chevy SS aims to fix that.
Of course, affordable these days is a relative term. The new SS will have start at $44,470 — just $5k less than the current Corvette, and $7,500 less than the jaw-dropping next one.

But, for the money, you’ll get a 415-horsepower, 6.2-liter LS3 V8 pushing a svelte (for a big sedan) 3,975-pound car around the corners. Big Brembos (14-inch front rotors, 12.8-inch rear rotors, and four-piston fixed front calipers) will reign it all in. A GM spokesman says the combination should be good for “about five seconds.”

There’s just one trim level available, but it’s loaded. Heated and cooled front seats, a Bose audio system a heads up display and stitched leather seats.

No options? You can spring for a $900 sunroof, and add $500 for a spare tire. That’s it.
Will it be worth it? GM says the SS is an evolved version of the G8, which was briefly the best American performance sedan without a “CTS” badge on the trunk. We lapped a NASCAR oval in it back in the day, and walked away thinking BMW should be scared.
