The shark-filled aquarium is a popular attraction located at the entrance to the Dongfang shopping mall. According to the Daily Mail, the area was flooded when the 10-inch glass suddenly shattered and the 34-ton casing collapsed.
Three lemon sharks and dozens of fish and turtles reportedly died.
Workers said there was no warning of the accident that sent some people to Changzheng Hospital with deep wounds and serious injuries, the Daily Mail reported.
Police have reportedly launched an investigation.
CCTV footage of the incident has been uploaded to YouTube and viewed more than 275,000 times.
